23/365 un/follow

I saw this post from the Poems Porn Facebook Page.

And then I just had to repost.

We think that unfollowing, blocking/unfriending people on our social media accounts is bad or rude. We are so concerned about how these people would feel upon discovering we’re not “friends” with them anymore on Facebook, or we no longer follow them on Instagram or Twitter. It’s like putting their feelings first before our own peace of mind.

I used to think that way, too. I’d feel guilty when I had to block someone. Until I realized how some people’s posts give me stress more than my 8-hour work, that “watching” their drama on social media is becoming less entertaining. I would always find myself stressed about unnecessary posts.

That is also when I realized how annoying it must have been for my friends when I used to be like that before. Now, I have learned to control myself whenever I feel super happy or outraged about something. (think I’ve matured a little bit? 🀣).

I have learned to value my peace of mind over someone’s feelings 3 years ago. Thanks to the “unfollow” and “take a break from..” features of Facebook, I do not have to block/unfriend people in my friends list and then feel guilty about it. I just have to do three simple steps:

  1. Go to the person’s profile page.
  2. Click “Following” below their profile picture and name.
  3. Select “Unfollow”, then click anywhere outside the pop-up (when done via the FB Mobile App)

That’s just it. You’re now free from drama and toxicity! 😜

I read somewhere that “some people are like clouds – when they’re not around, it’s a brighter day”. I tell you, after unfollowing certain people, it’s always a brighter day in my newsfeed. 😜

So if ever I am becoming toxic in your newsfeed, go ahead and unfollow (or even block) me.

It’s your social media account. You have the right to follow or unfollow anything (person, group, celebrity/news page, etc).

Choose joy and KonMari your social media account following! πŸ˜†

It’s okay. πŸ˜‰
